The latest update in a 39th District Court hearing involving suspended Sterling Heights police officers James Sribniak and Jack Currie, who alleged victim Gary Young claims used excessive force on him after attempts to pull him over, interjected race into his testimony.

Young was questioned by Defense about why he only claimed racial motivation now for the first time, 17 months after the incident.

Charged by the Michigan Attorney General’s office with one count of misconduct in office and assault with a deadly weapon, Currie and Sribniak may face the felony charges in Macomb County Circuit Court and stand trial, based on Judge Alyia Marie Hakim’s decision.
