WXYZ Channel 7 reported on the status of Oxford school shooter’s mom Jennifer Crumbley’s request for acquittal or a new trial. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews denied most of the request, refusing to overturn the sentence but stopping short of deciding “whether or not Jennifer should get a new trial based on proffer agreements the prosecution made with two witnesses in the case.” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald and her team allegedly did not provide Crumbley’s prior counsel with the agreements, potentially resulting in decreased efficacy in her legal defense.

Per criminal defense attorney and president of Michigan Defense Attorneys Arthur J. Weiss, “It is an agreement between a prosecutor’s office and an individual that whatever they say as long as they’re truthful will not be used against them.”
