Following an investigation into an alleged food stamp fraud operation by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s FORCE Team, Detroit business owner Sean Allos has been charged with felonies related to conducting a criminal enterprise and receiving and concealing stolen property. Allos will stand trial in July, defended by Arthur Jay Weiss, president of the law firm Arthur Jay Weiss & Associates PC.

Nessel’s FORCE team focuses on criminal operations where products are stolen from retailers, then repackaged and sold at a profit. While FORCE alleges that Allos’ operation reproduced EBT cards in Michigan with data from cardholders out of state and used them to purchase energy drinks from Sam’s Club stores, Weiss asserts that state-disseminated information around the case paints an inaccurate depiction of the truth.

“On the basis of what I’ve reviewed so far, the notion that my client is some mastermind of a multi-state fraudulent ring does not conform with what the attorney general’s office has given us,” Weiss said. “I mean, if their allegation is… my client was a mastermind of some multi-state organization (and) dedicates $4 million worth of fraud, that’s not borne out by the discovery materials that I’ve reviewed.”
